First of all I liked to say THANK U to everyone for their SUPPORTS all
this year... THANK YOU. Pre Release will never be the same again... BUT
maybe SOMEDAY it will be BACK again... HOPEFULLY... MAYBE...

Next Magic tournament will be in AUGUST and it will be PTQ BERLIN... the

NOTE: On June 16th 2008 WOTC announced that after the EVENTIDE pre
release, all future pre releases will be held at SHOP level... which only
mean ONE SAD news... Pre release will never be the same again. It will not
be a BIG thingy anymore and EVENTIDE will be the last BIG pre release I
will be organizing... so make sure U attend the LAST ever BIG pre release
in Malaysia...

Introducing: The 7 Proxy Rule

Hello everyone!

We're introducing a new rule for our constructed tournaments - "The 7 Proxy rule".

Only certain events will have this rule, and for now, only the Gauntlet series will have this rule.

The rule allows you to have 7 proxy cards in your deck. This means, you can use up to 7 cards you do not own for your decks by putting replacement cards that clearly represents the card that you want to play in your deck.

You may either print out a very clear copy of the card with readable text and insert it into your sleeves with a random magic card, or write down very clearly, the name of the card, the casting cost (use 'W','U','B','R','G' to represent white, blue, black, red, green mana symbols), card type with subtypes if any, and the rules text, including the power / toughness if any, on a piece of paper, and insert it into a sleeve with a random magic card.

Please note that as the rule name implies, you may only use up to SEVEN proxy cards in your deck.

Also note that you many only proxy very expensive cards or very hard to find cards. If you have the means to purchase the cards and it is available, you may not proxy it.

Exceptions will be made for special circumstances such as, you do own the card, but it has been on loan to a friend, or you have ordered the purchase of the card and it has not arrived yet. But the maximum card limit for proxies remains the same.

Hopefully this rule will allow players to play with better decks and have more fun playing their decks. :)

However, please be reminded that playing proxy cards for any sanctioned tournaments are not allowed and it is illegal.

Welcome to a start of a new exciting series of Magic: The Gathering play!

From today onwards, players may sign up, run the gauntlet, and get a chance to win a booster pack or one of these beauties, as often as they want!

You might even walk away with one if you're lucky!

Here how it's going to work.

1. The Gauntlet will 'fire' every time it fills it's 8-man quota.

2. It will be a Standard Constructed single-elimination tournament with a twist.

3. Players will then be paired randomly, and the pairings will be announced.

(And here's the twist.)

4. There will be no specific time or place to play. Instead, players have to contact each other and arrange a place and time to play a best 2 out of 3 games match. Then, the results of the match must be reported to the tournament organizer.

5. There will be exact time limit on when the players must play out their match, but everyone is encouraged to play them out as soon as possible, preferably within a day or two. Players' right to compete will be forfeited if they could not play their match with a suitable time period.

6. Any rules infraction or disagreements should be reported to the tournament organizer as soon as possible, and the organizer will strive to resolve them as soon as he can, but players might be subjected to a rematch if the circumstances arises.

7. Entry fee to Run the Gauntlet will be RM2.

8. The winner of the Gauntlet will be entitled to choose from i) a Booster Pack or ii) one promotional card out of the available ones as his prize. The runner-up will receive the one not chosen.

9. Another promotional card will be given out at random to one of the remaining players in a lucky draw.

10. Every player besides the winner and the runner-up will also receive one rare card of his or her choice from the tournament organizer's rare box, limited to certain cards only.

Nationals... Yesterday we crowned a NEW CHAMPION, WONG WENG SHENG from
the Two Fishy Clan.. He won with his Dreadging Deck. Apparently his whole
TEAM went with the SAME DECK for this NATIONALS... This year the Malaysian

Congratulations SoC Malaysian Nationals Qualifier winners!

It was a very exciting game as the finalists battle to rule over the island of Catan.

Alex Liew and Alex Loh were both leading the charge with very powerful early plays, while a string of bad luck (and robbers) keeps attacking Amran and his meager settlements. But lady luck was not with Alex Liew and Alex Loh, as they find themselves having nothing to do during their turns long enough for some strategic brilliant play by Sujatha who sneaked through a victory quietly beneath the finalists' noses with Amran taking the last nationals slot in a surprising but powerful late game comeback.

Don't worry Alex and Alex, hopefully we can run another one next year! Or better yet, join the remaining qualifiers in KL!

Looks like Amran's getting ahead of himself with his surprise runner-up win of the Qualifier. Congratulations, nevertheless!

over the dice to the next player.

CARE Club Semester 1 Weekly Events!

Welcome to all members, new and old. We will be having weekly events everyday from next week (July 9th) onwards. All our events takes place at ACR1007 from 8pm until late. This is of course optional and you are free to come and go as you wish. ;)

Our schedule is as follows:

Mondays: Boardgames. (We have a wide variety and most if not all are easy to play. Currently, our game library includes Memoir'44, World of Warcraft: The Boardgame, Citadels, Settlers of Catan, A Game of Thrones and Risk)

Tuesdays: Dungeons and Dragons sessions. (Currently we're running a campagin at the moment. We will be starting new campaign(s) soon, so interested players please contact new Dungeon Master, Razzman at 0176093725)

Wednesdays: Magic: The Gathering constructed tournaments. (Only starting on week 5, more details on separate announcments and bulletin.)

Thursdays: Magic: The Gathering booster drafts tournaments. (Not held in ACR1007. Limited to 8 persons per draft group and by invitation only. If you are interested in joining the drafts, please contact QJ Wong at 0173479512)

Fridays: World of Warcraft: Trading Card Game tournaments. (Raids and PVP)

Remember, time and venue are ACR 1007, 8PM! (Contact us if you don't know the way!)

For the board games, the World of Warcraft board game will be a "by demand" as it is a long game. So if you wish to play you will have to ask us. There's always wikipedia.com if you would like to know a little about a particular game, and don't worry if you don't know how to play any of the games above, just come on the given day and we will be more than happy to teach you or tell you more about the games themselves. 2007 Magic: The Gathering Malaysia National Championship

The biggest Malaysian Magic: The Gathering tournament held every year is coming soon, and this year's edition will be held on the 1st and 2nd of September 2007. This is a very big thing, because there is no better avenue to step into the professional play arena.

This year's cash payouts for the nationals is USD 7,000. That's a whopping roughly RM23,000! There's products for consololation prizes, but that's not important. Here's a table for the cash payout.

But, the most important thing is, getting on the top 4 gets you an invitation to the World Championships 2007 and the chance to represent the country as the national team on the team event during the championship! Each National Team will receive the minimum prize of $3000 USD. However, since teams consist of 4 players, each player will receive $750. Minimum.

Interested? The Nationals is an invite only event. Here's how you can get yourself invited.

The quest to mend Dominaria’s temporal and planar damage continues. A temporal rift connected to an alternate Dominaria has enabled Phyrexian horrors to cross over into the present day. Freyalise is gone, having given her planeswalker spark and her life to close that rift, thereby protecting her sanctum of Skyshroud one last time.

But time fractures still plague Dominaria. The damage to the planar fabric at Tolaria was so severe that it couldn’t be healed—not in the present day. The heroes seek out the planeswalker Karn, the only being ever to travel through time. To heal Tolaria’s rift, Karn uses the full extent of his planeswalking power to enter the rift and return to the past, to the moment before the archwizard Barrin cast a spell that obliterated countless Phyrexians and himself. Karn succeeds and seals the planar rift before Barrin’s actions can rip it open. In the next moment, Karn is lost.

Even as Venser begins to realize his full potential, the planeswalker Jeska returns to Dominaria for the first time since Karona fell. Her friend and ally Karn is gone, and someone will pay. An ancient, evil intelligence drives Jeska’s wrath and threatens to undermine Teferi and Jhoira’s efforts to complete Dominaria’s healing: Leshrac has returned.

The Four Pillars of Magic

What I want to share with all the magic players today is an article I read on the net.

The article talks about the four main aspects of the game you need to know to be a better player. And the best way to do it? Something I know many of you guys have already heard more than enough from me.

"Play more".

Go on, give it a read. Then come back here after you're done.

Back? There's another thing I wanted to add to the last pillar, Luck.

The article mentioned 2 important things to lookout before before blaming your own 'luck'. Magic in it's core is a game of mathematics and probabilities. Most don't really care because the numbers involves simply boggles one mind, but they exist. Hence, another factor when you're dealing with 'luck' that I felt the article left out was deck building skills. There's a very good reason why everyone needs to play four copies of their best card - this maximizes the probability of you drawing them in a game, because you WANT play them.

Another means is card drawing or tutors. Let's take the Dragonstorm deck for example. Remands, Compulsive Research, even Sleight of Hand lets the player cycle through the deck for the precious combo pieces you need to win. Most people who lose to the deck might lament the fact that the other player 'got lucky' and managed to pull off his Dragonstorm combo before they can kill the Dragonstorm player, but the fact is that the deck was built that way to maximize the chances of getting your the combo pieces out, hence, from a more mathematical point of view - a win with this deck has more to do with the deck design than plain ol' luck.

Another example are during Booster Drafts. There's a very good reason why people are encouraged to play 40 cards, the minimum number. The smaller the deck, the higher the probability you will be able to draw your best cards. Of course, there's more to this that makes drafts more skill intensive and challenging, like card evaluation and signaling, but we'll leave the more advanced topics to the pros or another day. Deck building skills play a part here as well as most players forget about many key principles, like the Mana Curve and Creature / Other spells ratio. A keen eye is needed to look out and maximize the synergies you can find while drafting to put into your pile of cards that you'll be building your deck out of.

Thus, sharp card evaluation + good drafting skills + good deck building skills = a powerful and 'lucky' deck.

Everyone has a hand in how 'lucky' one can be in their games. Always remember to non't be lazy, shuffle up properly, build more decks, draft more perhaps and most importantly, play more. That's how you become a better player, and that's how you can 'defeat' bad luck.

Randomness is all part of the game. The reason why Magic is so captivating and fun to me is how every game can be so different from the other. If you like a fair game where everyone gets the same cards and is allowed the same moves and find Magic unfair in it's 'luck' factor, go play chess. :)

Future Sight, that is.

Although lacking the boom and hype of Planar Chaos (no thanks to Damnation), FS seems to be shaping up to be a very interesting set, as Wizards (thanks to crazy ol' MaRo) seem to be using FS as a testing ground for many many potential new mechanics, different twists of the game and a potential future new frame for the game. WotC insists that these are only potential futures as nothing is set in stone yet. What I think is that they're using this as a live test, a survey of sorts, to see how players respond to a taste or two of many experimental ideas and mechanics R&D has come up with.

There is going to be 49 total keywords appear in FS. Among others split second, suspend, echo, buyback, convoke, morph and Scry.
